Geocities To Shut Down, Millions of Geeky '90s Kids Get Nostalgic

Holy 12 years ago batman! This is all coming back to me like it was yesterday. I remember setting up a simple multi-page website on an obscure service called FreeYellow where I sold a Cable TV Descrambling Report for $5.95. I had about a dozen sales from it.

But I will always remember GeoCities. It was truly ahead of its time. As the years went by, I finally settled with Freewebs in 2001, now called simply Webs.com. I would like to get on BlueHost or SliceHost where I would have 100% control of the Web Server... but that's a project for a different day.

In short, there are a lot of great web hosts out there but GeoCities defined the '90s. They went together like bread and butter. Goodbye our dear GeoCities. R.I.P.

Story here.

Geocities is well remembered. It seemed like almost everyone had a webpage on there loaded with tons of animated gifs to show how cool they were. I probably would have myself, but I had the luxury of working for an ISP back then, so I got my webspace that way.
